Les Bucherons, specializing in cultural preservation, has been running exceptional live programming in schools for over 30 years. We know you understand the value of quality education and we are honoured to share our upcoming plans.
Our company founder, Gilbert Parent is turning 60 this year and has been on the road for a very long time! Ian Porteous has been serving on the road for 14 years and is about to have his second baby with his new wife Alana. To celebrate these life transitions we have brainstormed about how we can continue to serve in preserving and promoting traditional French Canadian culture for the future.
We’re taking big steps toward keeping up with the times, both with our email communication and what we offer as Curriculum Enhancement Products (CEP’s) for you. If you are interested in learning more about our CEP’s, please click here.
Oral tradition was the original form of education, in which both social values and environmental knowledge was transmitted. We are playing catch-up for the loss of languages, songs and stories that showed us how to be in community, care about the environment and our own identities.
As a company that specializes in cultural preservation, and after having worked with over one million students, we are in the position to passionately transmit our knowledge of teaching Canadian folklore and identity to you. Our vision is to support teachers in their dreams of being ambassadors for community building in schools, through cultural identification and a renewed sense of value in who we are, as members of this world.
The article entitled What Folklore Does for Us reads, “ A teacher of first graders told me that her students did better at the math lesson that followed a particularly engrossing storytelling session than they had ever done before, as their total engrossment in the storytelling had spilled over into their other work. Folklore serves to develop a flexibility of thinking and a critical consciousness about events and choices of action. Because the information transmitted in folklore is not transmitted as a fact or a single answer, but is open to listener interpretation, it helps develop the initiative and creative problem-solving skills in those to whom it is transmitted.” (If you are interested in reading the whole article, click here holdenma.wordpress.com/folklore-and-oral-tradition).
The first online CEP’s we are launching is a three program series of online educational videos, DVDs, books and the option of attending a weekend workshop symposium for you to be empowered and supported to be your best and to participate in rebooting oral tradition! We would love to see you become a part of perpetuating the embodiment of culture.
Imagine having access to a resource that will transform you into a conduit of cultural preservation. Visualize yourself personally participating in saving the life of an oral tradition that is dying!
Les Bucherons Online will launch worldwide on February 7th, 2014.
We wanted to let you know about our new launch for a couple of reasons. One is so you know that we will only be touring until June 2016, and two, that our expertise will become available to you at our educational symposiums and in an online resources next year!
